The Saguache elk hunting lodge is two log cabins on a private 40-acre inholding with exclusive locked gate access. The property consists of two (2) separate cabins connected by a garage and common entertainment area located above the garage. Each cabin has a virtual identical floorpan which consists of a living/dining area, full kitchen, 3/4 bathroom with washer and dryer and one bedroom. The lodge comes fully furnished and includes all appliances. The total square footage of living space is 1,884 square feet—consisting of two (2) 600 square foot, 1-bedroom/1-bathroom cabins and a 684 square foot common area complete with pool table and hot tub located above the garage. Also on the property is a 2-stall horse/mule barn with tack and feed room. This elk hunting retreat is entirely surrounded on 3 sides by 200 square miles of the Gunnison National Forest and has exclusive private, locked-gate access through the National Forest.
With treated log construction and a standing seam metal roof, the elk lodge is nestled in the tall timber and provides incredible access to elk hunting in GMU 551. Propane provides fuel for the appliances and heat is provided by wood burning stove. Propane is stored in two (2) buried 1,000 gallon propane tanks (and yes—propane companies can deliver propane to the location). Each living quarter contains its own full kitchens and sleeping quarters and the entire elk lodge sleeps 17 people. Solar panels provide electricity and is stored in twelve-24V batteries with a 10,000 Watt back-up propane generator. Rainwater and snowmelt is collected from the metal standing seam roof and stored in a 6,000 gallon capacity cistern and there is another 2,000 gallon cistern that serves water to the horse barn. This is truly a unique hunting lodge to basecamp elk hunts from. The lodge is being sold “as-is” and includes all furnishings.
Situated at 11,000’ in elevation, the hunting lodge is one of two 40-acre parcels entirely surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest. Trees have been removed around the cabin and barn to create a fire barrier and the logs of the lodge are treated with fire retardant. Access to this property is provided through exclusive access easements with 1.5 miles of private road and a locked gate to prevent the public from accessing the road. Located just 2.5 miles from the Colorado Trail, this elk lodge is situated for unprecedented access to the surrounding National Forest for hunting and mountain recreational activities. Elk populations in the area are stable and mule deer populations are growing—with buck-to-doe ratios and harvest rates well above the state average. There are also moose in the area. Over-the-counter elk tags are available in this area and due to the remote location of the hunting lodge, hunting pressure is quiet low as most people don’t venture out this far. Several seeps are located on the property and surrounding area and the nearby Sawmill Park is quite a haven for wildlife.
If you are a survivalist looking for the perfect prepper property, this might be it. The 40-acre inholding property is completely off-grid and self sustaining. The surrounding national forest is abundant with wildlife and the snowfall/rainwater roof collection system is quite ingenious. Solar powered electricity, shelter for your pack animals, locked gate privacy and miles from civilization. In this day and age, many people are looking for a sustainable, off-grid place to bug-out to if normal infrastructure and supply chains go awry. Our current situation with regards to COVID-19 make this a reality to many people and the prepper mentality has kicked in with more people than ever. If you are looking for a sustainable, off-grid property to get away from the madness--look no further--you've found it!
